Tanya's 60th Birthday (July 8, 2012)

We came to San Diego for the weekend to celebrate Tanya's 60th birthday. Before the party, we snuck in a short hike down to the bottom of the canyon, where we visited with some fiesty crayfish.

Back at the house, the kids helped get the place ready for the party. Soon a multitude of guests arrived with gifts and flowers. Dinner was followed by an extensive entertainment program, and, of course, desert.

Jane's Visit (April 11-12, 2012)

Over spring break, while Elmer and Adam were enjoying their Belize adventure, we spent a couple of quiet days hanging out in San Diego. We stopped to pick strawberries on the way down, then met up with Jane, Andrei, Mia, and Eliana, who were in town for the week. The girls played together on the playground, and at the house.

The next day, we all went to the zoo together. We got a chance to visit with some exotic animals, such as pandas, giraffes, elephants, monkeys, and... a peacock.

Thanksgiving 2011 (Nov 24, 2011)

We were in San Diego this year for Thanksgiving dinner, hanging out with the rest of the family. There was lots of good food, as usual, and games and prizes for the kids.

Gary's 60th Birthday (Sep 11, 2011)

Gary celebrated his 60th birthday with family and friends in San Diego. We came shortly before the party started to help prepare. Some of us even dressed up.

The birthday boy, who apparently still routinely practices one of his favorite tricks of standing on his head, looked to be in fantastic shape. The day after his birthday party, he got on a plane to Africa, where he successfully climbed to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Lora and Bill's Wedding (June 24, 26, 2010)

Lora and Bill got married, and many family members traveled to San Diego for the wedding (a lot of them all the way from Scotland). Before the wedding itself, there was a happy hour for the family at Lora and Bill's house.

Here are some pictures from the wedding: before the ceremony, during the ceremony, after the ceremony, pictures with the bride, cocktail hour, and the reception. The kids enjoyed the affair immensely, especially all the dancing.

Lumelskis' Visit (Aug 8, 2009)

Some of our relatives and friends were visiting from Israel, on a self-guided tour of the western United States. We saw them several times throughout their visit, but most notably in San Diego at the end of the trip.

Gena and Tanya had everyone over at their house, with tables set up outside to accomodate the large family. They even managed to procure a suckling pig for the occasion. The kids happily played in the toy tents set up just for them. As the evening wore on, we moved into the house, and Dima played a few of his songs on Adam's little guitar. And even the visitors' medical expertise was called upon before the evening was over.

Mira's 2nd Birthday (July 26, 2009)

Lucy was in San Diego with her kids when Miriam turned two, so there was a family get together at a local park to celebrate the big event. Allison and Mira enjoyed each other's company: they explored the playground, test drove their new kid-sized chairs, practiced their somersaults, and opened Mira's presents. The big kids played their own big kid games, but they still came running when it was time for the birthday cake.

Jane's Visit (June 27, 2009)

Jane, Katya, and Mia were in town again, and we saw them at Bill and Lora's house. Allison and Mia quickly found some common interests, such as good food and playing ball. They also enjoyed checking out each other's toys, and even playing some games. Adam had a great time hanging out with his buddy Bill, and acting as a big brother to both of the little girls.

Jane's Visit (August 16, 2008)

Jane, Katya, and Mia were in San Diego for a week in August. We came down to Bill and Lora's house to hang out with them for a day. The two babies quickly got acquainted with each other. They played inside the house, then moved out to the backyard, where they found such fascinating things as lemons and flowers.

Allison was acting like quite the independent girl, but who do you think was friendlier toward relatives?

Thanksgiving 2005 (November 24, 2005)

We celebrated Thanksgiving this year together with some visitors from Russia (good friends of my parents). It was great to see their familiar faces. For the rest of their stay, the tourists were busy visiting the sights, so we didn't get to see too much of them. But Misha and Tanya did stop by our house again, and played with the kids.

Jane's Graduation (June 12, 2004)

Jane came back to San Diego for a couple of days for her graduation. She had a celebratory picnic at the beach in Del Mar. Michelle and Adam showed up and made themselves right at home. Adam even found himself a slightly older woman.

Russia (March 17-31, 2004)

No, we didn't go to Russia, but my parents did, and these are some pictures from their trip. They visited with family and friends in Sverdlovsk, stopped by Moscow, and spent a couple of days in Berlin on the way there and back.

Sasha's 80th Birthday (May 31, 2003)

The entire family attended Sasha's 80th birthday celebration at Ira and Volodya's house. As usual, there was lots to eat and drink, and plenty of entertainment.

The kids enjoyed themselves both out in the backyard and inside the house. They were also the key participants in the birthday cake decoration.

Tanya's 50th Birthday (July 8, 2002)

My mom turned 50 this year. There was a brunch to celebrate - a small gathering, with the only grandchild being the guest of honor, of course. Michelle was delighted to go shopping for birthday balloons for her grandmother, and didn't want to part with them afterwards.

Rob & Dave's Graduation (June 14, 2002)

Believe it or not, Rob and Dave made it through high school in one piece. Some friends and family came to town for their graduation, including Tanya and Phillip (who spent some time hanging out with us, when he was really bored). After the ceremony, we had a quick party for them at our house; then they got dressed up and rushed off to grad night.

Jane & Anthony's Wedding (June 17, 2000)

Jane and Anthony got married in San Diego, and the family's entire Russian contingent attended. As usual with this crowd, there was some crazy dancing - not to mention eating, drinking, and generally having a good time.

The next day was Father's Day, so, while the newlyweds were boarding a plane to Italy, the rest of us got together for a picnic in the park. Just in case we didn't eat enough the day before.

Nancy & Charles' Wedding (April 7, 2000)

Elmer's mom got married in Huntsville. Unfortunately, there aren't as many good pictures here as we would have liked; the room was a little dark, and hard to navigate in. However, there is one excellent picture of Dave and Sister, who sat at our table, and helped keep us entertained.

Rob & Dave's 16th Birthday (April 2, 2000)

Rob and Dave had to dress up for their 16th birthday; they were not pleased. On the other hand, in honor of their birthday, they got to attend the all-you-can-eat brunch at the Torrey Pines Hilton, which may have almost made it worth the effort.
