Masha's Visit (Aug 30, 2020)

Masha's family headed our way to flee the fires in the Bay Area, and ended up hanging out in Laguna Beach for a week or so. We mostly stayed away, Covid and all, but I did pop in for a couple of quick visits, and some short walks on the beach.

Bry's Visit (Feb 29, 2020)

Bryan and Michelle were on a trip to Southern California for Bryan's work, and came up to Laguna Beach for the weekend. In the we went hiking on the easy but very scenic Aliso Summit Trail. In the evening, the kids joined us for dinner in Laguna. Afterwards, we even got treated to our own private concert, complete with original music and front-row seating.

Sandor's Visit (Feb 15, 2020)

Lehoczkys were in town again, and we got to see them for a day before Adam and I went off on our own trip to the East Coast. The weather was a lot more cooperative than the last time they were here, so we went on a nice walk down the beach. The kids climbed some cliffs, Sandor got a little wet, Richard got hungry and ordered a lot of food... the usual.

Visiting Richard and Vanessa (Nov 28, 2019)

We hadn't visited the Rusczyks in a long time, so we went to celebrate Thanksgiving. There was turkey and potatoes and stuffing and vegetables, and at least four kinds of pie. Adam went off to climb a cliff in the rain with his camera. Allison spent a lot of time drooling over the cat. And it took us a very long time to finish a puzzle.

Bry and Michelle's Wedding (Oct 12-14, 2019)

We traveled to Fredericksburg, Texas to attend Bryan and Michelle's wedding. Pretty much the entire Grissom crew was in attendance. We haven't seen many of them in years, so it was nice to catch up. The wedding was held at Luckenbach Texas, outdoors under a big oak tree, and the reception was in a dance hall with music supplied by the bride and groom themselves. When the newlyweds weren't playing their guitars and singing, they were being toasted. It was an awesome party at a unique venue, and a great occasion to see many old friends.

T.I.'s Visit (May 4-6, 2019)

I spent a weekend in the Bay Area with Masha and Tatiana Ilyinichna, who was visiting from Moscow (thanks to Masha for hosting and coming up with the whole schedule of events!). On Saturday, we went from the airport straight to San Francisco and walked around Crissy Field, then drove back to Masha's place and hung out with the rest of the family. On Sunday, we drove north to the Russian River, stopped by a winery, and visited a redwood forest. We spent the night at a remote bed and breakfast, situated in the middle of a redwood forest, and complete with gravel paths, overgrown gardens, overflowing bookshelves, and rooms named after old English writers.

Sandor's Visit (Feb 16-17, 2019)

The Lehoczkys were here on their annual Southern California visit, and together with the Rusczyks, they spent a day with us in Laguna Beach. It was cold and rainy, and not at all a great day to spend on the beach, but everyone managed to have a good time anyway.

Adele's Visit (Jan 12, 2019)

Adele, Allison's friend from Epsilon, was visiting San Diego with her family, and we got the girls together on a (somewhat drizzly) Saturday. We spent the morning wandering around La Jolla Cove, looking at the seals and doing some good old-fashioned tree climbing. After lunch, we drove down to Belmont Park for some rides and entertainment. We finished the day at the Balboa Park, where the girls had fun zooming around on rental scooters.

Brian and Kelly's Visit (Jan 2-4, 2019)

Brian, Kelly, Julia, and Nicholas were in Southern California for a few days over New Year's, and stopped by Irvine for a visit. The following day, Elmer and Allison joined Brian and his kids on a trip to the San Diego Zoo.

Banks' Visit (Aug 2-5, 2018)

The Banks came and stayed with us in Laguna for a couple of days, before heading off to visit other people and places up north. We mostly just stayed at the beach: swimming, sunbathing, digging giant holes, and boogie-boarding. Adam tried to introduce Andrew to skimming. Some of us went for a walk along the beach. And the kids even managed to squeeze in some quality board game and group math time.

In the midst of the visit, Allison turned eleven. We celebrated her birthday with a ramen dinner and a birthday cake.
